Flaming Gorge sees hot, dry summers ideal for boating and fishing, and cold winters that bring ice fishing to the reservoir. Spring and fall offer mild temperatures and fewer crowds on the water. Wind can pick up on the open reservoir any time of year, so check conditions before you launch.

Getting There

Flaming Gorge straddles the Utah-Wyoming border in Daggett County, UT and Sweetwater County, WY, about 3 hours from Salt Lake City and 3.5 hours from Denver. The main gateway towns are Manila and Dutch John, Utah, with Green River, Wyoming serving the north side via the Flaming Gorge-Uintas Scenic Byway.

Best Time to Visit

June through August is peak season for boating, water skiing, and fishing on the reservoir. Fall offers excellent fly fishing on the Green River below the dam with fewer crowds. Winter draws ice anglers for the annual Burbot Bash tournament, while spring brings quieter marinas and mild weather.
